processor question

I wonder how they configured hyper threading on some of the duals , I found that interesting.

so even though most of duo processors i've seen run at a slower rate, they would still be faster than a higher rate single?

Yes, virtually any of the dual core processors are far faster than any consumer single core processor.

Also, their is an architectural difference between the Pentium 4 and Core 2 Duo. Each core of the Core 2 Duo can do more per clock cycle (mhz) than a Pentium 4 could.

For a comparasion, a 1.86ghz Core 2 Duo would be faster than a two P4 3.6's combined. The Core 2 Duo range work like the AMD processors in the way they handle information.

Yeah, you can also set programs using the Affinity function in Windows, to only use 1 core or 2 cores for something, if you have a Quad, leaving the other 2 completly free for other tasks. That way, you know you aren't going to get any slow down what so ever.
