Okay, well let's see what I use PC's for...

I usually have the following programs all on at the same time:
1. Dreamweaver
2. Photoshop
3. Flash
4. ImageReady
^Web Development

Gaming:
1. F.E.A.R.
2. Doom 3
3. Halo
4. Civilization IV

Stuff ALWAYS running in the background:
1. iTunes
2. Mozilla Firefox

...

So recommend a processor(s) and memory.

Mind you, this is a seperate project from my other rig, which is not for me. In fact, I might even wait on this project for a couple years, as my current rig works fine. I'm just interested in which AMD processor is best.

Let's keep money out of this. I'm not interested in buying at the present... I just want to know what's best.

Is it possible to fit in 2 of these dual core processors into one machine?

For example, 2 FX's in one system, or perhaps 2 X2's in one system?

And what's the difference between the FX and X2?

And again, what are your thoughts on Opteron? I'm assuming that's for more hard-core development, like 3D rendering, etc...?

I have no opinions on Opteron processors. I always assume that the Opteron series CPU is targeted at workstation and server use, but apparently, it's made their way to mainstream desktop PCs. Yes, it's possible to fit two of those CPU onto one motherboard. Tyan makes a bunch of them. The more the better. Yeah, go quad core.
