Default problems with codecs

I have a avi clip and when I open up WMP at the bottom is says opening media then error downloading codecs and the video plays but with no sound.
I thought it was just a dodgy file but it happened to a couple more clips that I got a few weeks ago which I know had sound. It hasnt happened to all my avi's just some.

The clip is from limewire and im using WMP 8

I was told to use Gspot 2.60 to find what codecs are needed and i got this result http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/8...nter001kl6.jpg

That program says NO video codecs are installed and there IS audio codecs installed but I have video playback but no sound, I dont get it.
I then installed this http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=XviD_Codec but it still has no sound.

I just installed that XviD codec and left it then tried to play the clip again, was I meant to tamper with some settings in XviD?

I've always used k-lite codec pack. And I've never had a problem with missing codecs. It will install a lot of stuff though, but during installation you can choose which stuff you want so you don't have to install all of it.
