problem with my processor

i just got a new Intel Pentium 4 2.66 GHz processor andi just putted it in my computer, and stupid me, i forgot to plug the cooler into the motherboard, and i couldnt figure out what was wrong with it, so it was on for about 2 minutes and it justs kept restarting, then when i plug the cooler back in, it just keeps resetting, what should i do?

Its most likely overheating. Check to see if your heatsink is on all the way, and did you apply thermal paste?

Edit: Also, when it boots up, go into BIOS and check the temps.

the bios dont tell me what the temperature is. The computer restarts after when it asks if i want to start the computer normally or safe mode, after i choose start normally it restarts and does the same thing. I switched my old processor back and it still does the same thing
