Default problem with Multimedia Audio Controller

I formatted and installed Windows XP on my kids machine. All is well except no sound. Device Manager shows Multimedia Audio Controller is not installed. I have no idea what driver I need.

Under sound/video, etc.it shows several audio components including Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, WDM TVAudio, all listed as working properly.

Do I have to pull my sound card to find out the manufacturer info? We built this machine a long time back and I don't have any of the CD's that it could need.

Actually if you know the card then you could google for the drivers or go to the manufacturer's web site and look up the drivers there.

but if you do a mixture of both of these 2 post you will probably get the easiest answer download everst and then google your audio card for drivers.

The problem is that I do not know what driver I should get. Because I do not know the sound card. So this site http://www.lavalys.com/ provides me the right program to checkout what sound card i have right?

Okay I install it. Now I am checking it. This is what it shows.
VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller

Is that the one?

Yep

Here you go

http://www.driverfiles.net/Removable-Drives/Yamaha/VIA-AC'97-Enhanced-Audio-Controller-(WDM)/download/page,show,18591,408,23,.html

Hmm... for some reason, its not showing as a link but just needs copying and pasting into the browser.

Just download that and run it.

I hope this helps

EDIT: Or try the post below for an alternate place, though they'll both be the same

Exactly!

I go onto this site and see all those details of the VT## Southbrigde. I am lost?????!?!?!?! Which one am I supposed to pick?

Technically I have two sound cards in my computer. There is one that comes along already attached into my motherboard. And there is one that my friend gave me. How do I know which driver is the one for the sound card my friend gave me???
