I just moved into a new residence, and attempted to plug in my computer for the first time. i heard a faint whirring sound from the power supply, but the computer was unresponsive to me pressing the power button on the front of the unit. any advice, ideas, etc???

Could be a different voltage coming from the socket... not likely though. Perhaps the computer was damaged while moving... Since it is the PSU, perhaps it what I mentioned first...

Yeah, make sure that the voltage coming out of the outlet is the same as it used to. If everything's the same, start shopping for a power supply, as obviously this one is damaged. If you recently bought the PSU (or computer for that matter) look into the warranty and try to get an RMA (return manufacturer authorization) where they refund your money or fix it. Check those options out and get back to us.
