Prime95 stressing too much?

4.0GHz on air with an E8400 no problems apparently, but the multi is limited to 7, 8 & 9 iirc, so once again we approach the magical 500MHz FSB mark, hopefully the X48 chipset will give some improvement there.

EDIT: 450*9 would be OK, I just wanna play with one to see what it could do.

well that sounds pretty good,
so the limit is 4.5??? if they even reach that high
if they only gave us x10

Precisely, that's why we run it.

What clocks gave you 60°C?

What is your vcore set to?

I was overclocking and benching last night as it was a bit cooler (23°C) and at 3.6GHz with 1.38750v I was hitting 63-63-60-60, while these temps seem hot they're actually not near the top of the scale (71°C) Short term for benches they are fine and even for 24/7 you'll probably replace the processor before you get electrical migration bad enough to kill your cpu.

EDIT: @Kage - I'm currently testing 3.2GHz at this very moment, ambient air temp is 21°C and I'm running at 48-48-45-45 with 1.23750v, prime95 has been running an hour now. I've been adjusting the n/bridge voltage manually too, it's quite amazing how much this affects stability on this board.

My current settings now are

CPU Core - 1.2813
CPU FSB - 1.4
Memory 1.90
nforce - 1.5
aux - 1.5
PCI-E - 1.4
HT(SPP-MCP) - 1.2

FSB Mhz - 1336
MEM Mhz - 850

I left prime95 on for around 25 minutes and the temperature was up to 63degrees celsius, so i stopped it. The idle temp is 38. Is this normal for prime95? the torture test was on blend mode.

That's a lot of heat for such a low voltage, I presume we're talking about 3.0GHz, is that correct?

Have you checked to see that your cooler is still firmly attached, those push pins can let go.

1.28v is pretty high for 3.0GHz too which will elevate your temps, I'm using 1.24375v to get 3.0GHz, I just happen to have it running on a test too, lol
