hey,
this is my first post, so please dont hit me if i screw it up.

i recently purchased a new computer heres the specs

P4 prescott 3.0GHZ
Powercolour X800
4x256 megs of memory
and 200gigs of space.

thats the main things anyway

being a fair noob at computers i just sort of nodded my head and tried to look like i knew what was going on. i hear alot of horror stories about the Prescott.
my question is getting a 3ghz prescott cpu a good idea?

any insight negative or positive would be greatly appreciated.

cheers :)

Hmm. I havn't heard any bad things yet but then again I don't know many people with them.

Search the net for reviews/experiences :)

As camers stated, they are a little on the hot for an Intel. Now it is about the same as an AMD 64 when it comes to producing heat.

Other then that, the Prescott is a kick butt processor! The prescott was going to be named the Intel P5 for its new 90nm platform, but Intel decided to hold off on the P5 for the new PCI Express chip.

Good choice in computer, now go get DOOM 3 and frag 'til you get out of HELL!!!

Is that what you heard or is that what you know? There is a huge difference between the two.

If it sucks, then why is the industry heading in that direction?

Plus, this thread is in regards to the Prescott chip.
