can a 450W power supply with a 12V connector work on a motherboard that doesn't have a place for the 12V? Or do i need a power supply w/out one? It says it works with the AMD Processor, but i don't know?

Ok...

If you're refering to the 4 pin connector with yellow and black wires, it's a 12v power booster for the Intel p4 line of cpu's. If you're running a AMD system it's not required so just tuck it out of the way. Might want to dress the plug with some black tape so it doesn't short out on any thing. Also older models of the p3 type didn't need it either.

Well...

I think you're right. I just jumped over to TigerDirect and took a look at a ABIT board and it was behind the printer socket to the right. Had to look close to see it but it there.
Thanks for pointing that out. I learned something today...
