Default Power button on keyboard

When I use the power button on the right of the F12 button on my keyboard to shut down the computer the shut-down process takes less time than if I do it using the start menu. Why is this - and which is the safest method to use?

Both are the same, its just that Windows does a memory dump of the open programs all at once. When you use the start->shut down at it is about the same but it does it one program at a time.

Either way is ok. As long as you shut down WITHOUT turn the power off.
