Default Possible build, need help and opinion.

Building a new computer and wondering if these specific parts would be good and which would be better?

CPU: AMD Athlon 64x2 6400 AM2 or Intel Core 2 Duo e8400 <-- which?

90mm Aluminum fan

HDD: Seagate ST3500320AS

GFX: Gigabyte HD4850 w/ Zilman Fan

RAM: 4GB Kingston memory kit ( with 64 bit OS)

I know i may be missing some things but i need some opinions and criticism on what has been given so far. I will be using this build primarily for work/ games. I'm open to any opinions or suggestions and it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Default Re: Possible build, need help and opinion.

i think in benchmarks the E7200 beat the 6000+ in most benches, since the 6400+ is only .2ghz higher than the 6000+ and the E8400 is .46ghz higher than the E7200, and it being an 45nm, and the AMD being 90nm, the E8400 can OC a lot if you are going to OC, and it will run cooler too. I would go with the E8400, though its a bit more than the 6400+
for the HDD, go with the samsung spinpoint F1
while everything else looks good so far.

I don't really think those two CPUs compare, they're not in the same price range.

You might want to take a look at AMD's new 65nm 6000+ 3.1GHz and a lower TDP. Probably about the same speed as the slightly more expensive E7200.
