plug monitor in motherboard or video card on first boot??

Hey guys I'm in the middle of my first build and its going good so far. Just curious when you first turn on a fresh built PC do you plug into the video card? Or will that not work because there are no drivers yet? Do I just plug in to the mobo??

Video card. The BIOS will often disable the onboard video by default anyway.
