You should build your computer. Save money, and it looks cooler, everyone will think you are super smart, and it has bragging rights. Someone here once said, its just like legos, but they only snap into one slot. Seriously its really easy. If you have a screwdriver, thats all you need. From there its straight forward, snap this here and that there. You can install RAM? Thats as hard as anything else. Graphics card works in exactly the same way. harddrive, is just pluging your ipod into the usb slot, except its inside. CPU, just line up the arrows, put the lever down, and bam, your down. The rest is just screwing the motherboard on, and the heat sink. Plugging in the fans, usb ports, and power button.
The hardest part is easily picking out the parts. But if you arent going ot be gaming, just get an 8500gt. Or one of the radeon DX10 cards, as they all have HDMI out I think. Get RAM, HD space, and a decent processor. My computer plays HD movies fine, it cost me around $800 I think, last year.

Yeah really, you could build your own... I know thelis lives in greatneck, I live in malba/bayside area... I'm sure we could help.

Don't buy a dell, it's not very upgradable becuse they use inferior stuff. Buy an HP or something, sony viao, et cetera.

P4 2.4GHz, 1.5Gb, 40Gb.
PowerBook G4 867MHz, 1Gb, 60Gb.

I've suggested that to him before but he doesn't want to build. A couple things good about Dell is that they do offer competitive pricing and they also have improved support from what I've seen so far. Their parts might be generic, but a lot of other manufacturers are too. That's just what you get when you buy from Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway, etc. But, it's a simple solution to those who don't have the knowledge or doesn't want to build a PC. I personally would rather custom build one myself, but it's not practical for a lot of other people.

Unless if somehow he changes his mind, then we can throw all kinds of good stuff his way because building a PC is just that: Plug and Play.

If i don't need a sound card (because i won't be using an external stereo system) will this computer below will be fine for my need (it has 8 Integrated High Definition audio channels but what does that mean?):

HP Pavilion M7667C-B(RC644AA) 22" LCD Core 2 Duo E6400(2.13GHz) 2GB DDR2 600GB NVIDIA GeForce 7500LE Windows XP Media Center - Retail

Or this one:
# AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 4200+ AM2

# Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Socket AM2/nforce 590 SLI/Wifi/ATX Motherboard

# AENEON AMPO 2GB DDR-2 800MHZ PC-6400 (2X 1GB)

# Seagate ST3250620AS 250GB SATA2 7200rpm 16MB

# nVidia Ge-Force 8400GS 256MB w/TV-OUT/DVI PCI-Express Video Card

# Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 24-bit Sound Card, Bulk

# ENCORE 10/100Mbps PCI Adapter

# AGERE V.92 PCI Fax Modem

# 103 Keys PS2 Basic Keyboard (Black)

# I-MICRO 800dpi PS/2 Optical Mouse (Black)

# ViewSonic VG2030WM 20.1 inch 500:1 8ms DVI w/Speaker LCD Monitor (Black)

Grand Total: $1,019.90+SH
Personally, I'd take the HP Pavillion. It has more power than the other and comes with a 22" LCD, instead of a 20.1".
