Physical dumping

Once when i was playing osmething a blue screen of death came up with little words flashing 'physical dumping occuring'
I was just wondering what thsi was because i had to restart the computer. Is it the scratching of the harddrive because i think i faintly remember that there was a scratching noise coming from inside my computer...
