I guess the physics card can come in handy. I mean, Unreal Tournament 3 takes full advantage if them despite recommending a 7800GT/GTX SLI setup according to their website. Physics: Novodex Physics Engine with AGEIA PhysX PPU supported.

My dream system would include dual 8800GTS or 8800GTX setup (SLI), but I'm sure it can handle the load quite well without a physics video card. If I had money to spare, yeah, I would get one too just for the hell of it.
