Default philips cdrw/DVD SCB5265

I'm having a problem with my cdrw/dvd player. it opens and starts to act like it's going to read the disk but then it just stops, I've gone through everything that i've could to try and fix this issue myself but I'm coming up with nothing! The computer is telling me that all my drivers are okay and is running properly. obviously this is not true or i'd be watch a DVD and not asking how to fix it.

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1300 running Window XP home. i hope some has another answer other than to buy a new cdrw or computer. thank you

It's very possible that it's died. New ones are fairly cheap though, assuming it's a standard SATA slim drive.
