I have been told that if you wan't to have dual-core processors you need to have DDR2 RAM. Although I have also been told that if you have a Pentium D then you only need DDR RAM not DDR2, is this right? Thanks for any advice.

well the word need is completely wrong.

most people say if you have a core2duo then yes get ddr2 ram otherwise it will bottleneck there are motherboards that take core2duo and ddr ram so you dont need to but it is reccomended.

its the same with pentium D you could do with DDR2 RAM but its not essential.

give us your situation maybe we could reccomend whats best

ok let me suggest this motherboard for ya.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=775Dual-vsta

basicly it will support the pentium D you want and the old DDR memory you have and then when you wish to upgrade you dont have to upgrade your motherboard just your RAM.

it aslo supports core2duo's aswell also AGP and PIC - E so its the best motherboard to suit your situation

Thanks very much. Thats really good beacause it has both agp and pcie so I can upgrade from my agp card later on without a new motherboard. I just need to find one now. Thanks again.
