Default PDA Backup battery dying?

It's odd... My Axim X5 has a backup battery(well, stupid, huh?) and it will say that it's getting low every now and then. Why is that? Apparently it's not suppose to kick in unless the main battery completely dies. I don't let it get below about 70%, usally not even that low...

I mean, I have little dictionaries and such that have lasted years, and here this thing goes though batteries every few months... It's no big deal though...my important stuff is saved to other memory cards, so data loss would just be an annoyance rather than a problem. But still, any ideas?
