Pc switches off because getting too hot...and havent overclocked!

Ok ye, title says all. it switched off because got too hot, it got really hot, i mean i couldnt evban touch it, I havent overclocked at all, at least i dnt fink so...ive set CPU speed to compatinle now..is this right? Turned fast boot off, what could of caused this?

heatsink/cpu fan failure? what was hot? even the outside of the case??

Yeah! I havent had a fan for agez and its been ok, how do i find out my socket number, then i can get one, it just doesnt seem to be there..

Maybe you got too much dust and stuff, get a can of compressed air and blow it all out (You might be able to buy some from an eletronic store or hardware store)

Thanks guys...the mobo name comes up as Dell Dimension 3000...

I know its Intel...but I just generally don't know alot about sockets.

If your willing to open up your PC.
It will say next to the CPU under the heatsink i fyou have one that is
