partition help

I have sucessfully partitioned my hard drive, and it shows up as a smaller drive. Now how do I make the partiton apperar? I am running windows 98.

The partitioned section of the hard drive is free. The hard drive is in FAT 32. I just thought now that maybe the installation of Debian linux on that partition (which is why I made it) will format the hard drive. I'll go check the manuel. I used fips
