Overclocking Memory

What does memory do when overclocking?

I'm not sure about memory, so I decided to ask for advice. My PC will most probably be overclocked at some point, so it needs to be able to do that, and with a Venice cored AMD 3000+, I don't want to be held back by my memory.

I want as much as possible, in a matched pair so that my AMD's memory controller can take advantage of it. A gigabyte would be nice. I have up to £100 to spend on it, but the more I save the better. Is it possible?

Also, my board is a Abit AX8. What is the highest memory rating I can get, how far will it overclock to, will it support DDR2 memory, and what is the difference between DDR and DDR2 memory?
