what are the side effects of overclocking?

It can shorten the life of the component, and if it goes wrong the effects are catastrophic!!! If all goes well u'll have a large increase in performance!!

overclocking means more heat also, so make sure you have adequate cooling

Sometime, overclocking can cause the computer to hang up too if you're not careful. That is why when you do overclock it, do it in small increments instead of bumping everything up all at one time.
