Default os install help

hey guys.

i am trying to install windows xp home on my mom's comptuer, that already has professional on it. long story, i just need to lol.

anyway, i tried installing it earlier and it wouldnt quite work. the cd rom drive wouldnt let me boot from it, it would never say "press any key to boot from cd" it just skipped it, or acted like it was going to and then went on to boot from hdd.

now when i try to boot up it has the boot selector and one selection is "windows xp professional" and one is "windows(default)" so i am never getting to try to boot from cd.

if i try to do it from windows, and do a new install, which would be fine, it boots up into the setup, and tells me to put in "Windows xp home service pack 2 disc" whcih i dont ahve... so i am stuck there too...

any suggestions? thanks.

You did enter the BIOS and set the CDROM as the first boot device correct?

Is the CD recognized when you remove it and then out it back into the drive?

Try going into device manager, and uninstall the drive. Reboot and let the OS redetect it.
