Default Optical drive on its last leg?

Well my CD RW/DVD drive doesn't burn CDs anymore which is nothing new but now it won't work properly with burned CD's. I have a CD that someone burned for me and sent to me and I couldn't rip it on this computer no matter what so I had to rip it on my parent's computer, and then copy the files to my USB flash drive and put them on my PC that way. my question is..... is my optical drive biting the dust? it's only a 5 month old PC and i cleaned the lens with one of those lens cleaner discs and still won't work....

Desktop: Dell Dimension E510, 2.5GB RAM, Intel P4 3.0GHZ, 250GB HDD, Windows Vista Premium. Might not be the best, but the old girl is still running good.

I'll be the first to break it to ya, but a drive cannot tell the difference between a standard pressed CD and a properly burned CD-R
