How do you figure out how fast the cpu speed is going to be? I know when my computer is set as 1200 FSB with a 10x Multiplier my computer runs at 3.00GHz. How do you add it all up to get 3.00GHz? I was messing around with some more overclocks on my E6700, and tried my fsb at 1600, changed the multi to 8, and left the ram at 800mhz and I could of sworn it said 4.00GHz when it booted up, but I didn't like my temps so I changed it back. This computer, I have stock cooling so I don't want to go crazy. From time to time I like to mess with the overclocks, but was just wondering about my question.

FSB x multiplier (Intel FSB is quad pumped, e.g. your 1200 would be 4 x 300)

Your FSB is 300MHz x 10 = 3.0GHz

Your 4GHz would be 400 x 10

I think you'll find your multplier was 10 if it read the cpu as 4GHz or if it really was 8 then the cpu would be 3.2GHz which would produce high temps using stock cooling.

Personally I wouldn't exceed 3.0GHz with your present cooling.

My computer is completely stable running at 3.00GHz but the ram is not at a 1:1 ratio. I've ran prime95 for over 6 hours and it passed with flying colors. Is it okay that it's not at a 1:1 ratio?

A divider is fine if the memory runs OK at the selected speed, I'm currently running a 3:5 divider because my board/chip won't do 533FSB which is what I require for 1:1 so I went the other way and oc'd the memory. :D

Assuming you are running 300MHz x 10 multi to get yor 3.0GHz then your ram would be running below spec at 1:1 anyway, you'd need to use a 400MHz FSB to run 1:1, I'm not sure which multi's you have available with your chip but using 7 (2.8GHz) or 8 (3.2GHz) would run your ram at 1:1, just keep an eye on your temperatures at or above 3.0GHz. What temps are you getting at 3.0GHz btw?

at 3ghz my temps are at 36, and full load it never hits over 54. When I OC it to 3.2 at a 1:1 ratio the computer is stable, buy my idle temps are about 50-55c which I do not like. I'll just stay where I'm at for now. I may take my wife's zalman9700 out of her computer since she doesn't have too crazy of an OC.

Idling at 50-55°C is not good for sure, leave the wife with her Zalman and grab yourself a Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme.

;)

I have mine running at 3.15 Ghz its 29 degrees idle and 36 load. Check my sig for the 3DMark06 score running two 320mb 8800gts's SLi at 625/900 and Q6700 at 3.15 Ghz. 4 gigs of gskill 444412.
