nVidia GeForce 8600m GS

My computers GPU recently broke and my dad's friend is taking care of it and he said it would cost $250 to buy a new GPU (nVidia GeForce 8600m GS with 256MB DDR dedicated graphics memory) that also comes attached a motherboard. Is $250 too expensive for this kind of GPU?

I've had this laptop for about 2 years and before I go ahead posting the specs of my laptop why would you need to know them?

Personally... I wouldn't spend $250 on a two year old laptop.

I'm just wondering whether it's worth the 250 tx replace the motherboard, or if the money would be better spent on a new laptop
