My computers GPU recently broke and my dad's friend is taking care of it and he said it would cost $250 to buy a new GPU (nVidia GeForce 8600m GS with 256MB DDR dedicated graphics memory) that also comes attached a motherboard. Is $250 too expensive for this kind of GPU?

I'm assuming this is a laptop, what's the rest of the spec? How long have you had it?

I'm just wondering whether it's worth the 250 tx replace the motherboard, or if the money would be better spent on a new laptop

It's an HP Pavilion dv9640us
