what does NTLDR mean??
when i try to start my computer using only one harddrive which i just installed xp on, it says it cannot find NTLDR.

NT(the filesystem tipically used by NT, 2000, and XP) LDR(loader)

Sounds like you may have a bad install of XP. I've had similar problems. You could try replacing this file with another, or just reloading XP...

i solved the problem, i used a recovery disk to instal it in the first place, so i needed the other drive in and boot from that and then it asks me which xp to use so i just choose the new one. It's okay how it is now.

thanx

scary thing there. the xp boot manager is typical for that stuff. What happens is that you have only !(one) boot record now and if that goes out then both drives are screwed up. Spend a few bucks and get a good multi boot manager. Especially if you are removing drives for various reasons.
