Ntfs or fat32?

Nope, I formatted my old laptop in FAT32 loads of times.

Basically correct, NTFS can read a FAT32 formatted drive but FAT32 can't read a NTFS drive without third party software

Correct, XP will run on FAT32
 
Ah right, but most people won't have that third party software :p I know I didn't!
