Default noobie needs advice.

whats up all! I decided to try buying a custom pc for the purpose of mid to high end gameing and hooking the pc to my tv and recording like a tivo. can anyone recomend what kind of processer and videocards would be the best for these purposes? Would it be better to buy a good gameing card and buy a seperate tv tuner or buy an all in wonder like the radeon 9700 pro.
Also how much mem and hard drive would be acceptable.

Thanks, and any other advice would be appreaciated.
