Default New setup for a friend..

Just put this together for a friend. No case, PSU, peripherals.. Budget of $1200-1500..

Here we go:

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Manchester 1GHz HT Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA4200BVBOX - Retail

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Platinum System Memory Model OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K - Retail

SAPPHIRE 100150 Radeon X1900XTX 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - OEM
$489.00 (Same exact specs as the $629.99 ASUS x1900xtx )

HITACHI Deskstar T7K250 HDT722516DLA380 (0A31637) 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

LG Black IDE 16X DVD±R DVD Burner With 5X DVD-RAM Write Model GSA-4167B BK - OEM

Comes out to be $1,274.97

Edit: Hmm, if you want, you could go with a 4400+ instead of the 4200+ $355.00 compared to $463.00. Advantage would be the 2 x 1MB L2 cache, with the 4200+ only having 2 x 512KB
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo 1GHz HT Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA4400CDBOX - Retail

Everyone feel free to comment..

Default Re: New setup for a friend..

Don't worry about the processor, probably isn't worth the extra money. However, you should probably go ahead and get the retail version of the card; it'll be 20 bucks more and you'll get all the fancy stuff with it, and not just the card and some bubble-wrap. Perhaps another HDD to run in a RAID setup? I'm sure he'd like that... Love that memory! I see we both have the same stuff... Don't you just love it! Have you overclocked with it, yet? I haven't; I'm running a divider that works out perfectly to 200 MHz on the memory whilst 255 MHz on the CPU, but I'm probably going to change that, to see if I can get better performance.

Otherwise, looks good. The only other thing I might consider is a CrossFire motherboard but I really don't think that's necessary with the X1900XTX.
