What's the difference between a broadband router and a modem? I'm looking here. Is the 2wire homeportal I got both a broadband and modem?

Yeah, it's probably one of those router and modem combos, did you get it from your isp?
If that is the case, you will have to buy a broadband modem along with your router, cable or dsl, whichever you have.

Yeah, I got it from AT&T-SBC, formerly SBC. So in that case I will want this combo... by the way, how are the ranges on these things?

Yeah, thats probably what you'd want.

The range on them is good. You just have to make sure you put it near the middle of the house on the top floor so you get good coverage throughout the area.

I see... in that case, looks like I'll have to start from square one. My router is badly placed, so maybe it isn't so much a range issue as the control panel issue that makes me want to get a new one.
