New Processor

I was thinking of getting a new processor,

Here is what I got: Hp Pavilion A1540n:
Athlon 64 X2 (W) 4200+ 2.0 GHz
2000 MT/s (mega transfers/second)
Socket 939

Mother Board:
Manufacturer: Asus
Motherboard Name: A8M2N-LA
HP/Compaq motherboard name: NodusM-GL8E

What could I replace the processor with? Obviously it would have to be a AMD, but what could I replace it with? And could I use the old fan or get a new one?

Oops.

You have a socket 939 system. Those have been phased out and are no longer available. You can find them on eBay though.

You can find the AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4800+ on eBay, but they are very expensive and really not worth the expense for an older system.
