Default New laptop.....reformat and install XP?

Just got my very first laptop, an HP 6735s.

It came with Vista Basic and can I treat this thing like a regularold desktop and reformat the HD and everything and install my own Xp disk?

Also, i want to upgrade the RAM, will any brand do as long as I get the right specs or am I forced to buy HP RAM.

yes you can reformat but you will need the hp drivers it came with so it can all function with each other.

Also, as long as the ram is the same slot and the same ddr range it should be fine.

Maybe someone can recommend you some ram, what is your ram? it will say something like ddr 3200

Thanks for the help. Heo told me that my notebook has 2 slots for standard 667 or 800 DDR2 SDRAM and it supports 1024 MB or 2048 MB.

They recomend HP only RAm but not sure about that considering the prices at HP.

I was thinking of getting 2 new 1GB PC6400 800 sticks over at New Egg.

HP doesnt even make their own ram, so dont do that.

There is some Kingston Ram. Although, if you only have 1gb of 667 now, I would recommend getting rid of that all togethor, and getting either 2gb of 800, or 4gb of 800. Depending on how much you want to spend. Faster Ram is always better!!
