Just bought a new laptop as back-up for my desktop, which is getting long in the tooth, (2009).
Intel® Core) I have mostly been an AMD person but this Core i5 looked like such a good buy... What's the concensus on this laptop? Walmart.com: Acer Gray 17.3" AS7750-6423 Laptop PC with Intel Core i5-2430M Processor and Windows 7 Home Premium: Computers

Seems pretty good to me. At 17" it won't be something you'll want to carry with you where ever you go.

The only thing that really sucks about Intel based systems these days is the horrid Intel graphics. They should be banned for the extreme amount of sucking they do - I've seen some late model Intel units that can't even run Minecraft, and I have a little netbook with a 1GHz CPU that can run Minecraft just fine. It's really pathetic.
As long as you don't expect to do any gaming (at all) on it, then it's fine. The i5 itself is a fine chip.
