I haven't read that article either but I can guarantee that Core i5-2500K will tear the Phenom II X4 975 apart and spit out it's transistors! The AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition is closer performance wise, until you overclock the i5-2500K.

surprisingly the phenom 2 975 beat the i5 when gaming, so i am a happy bunny i guess. aNd, i never really believe in overclocking, strange but true, perhaps ?
but more importantly, how will the am3+ cpu's fare against it.

I've quickly browsed a few review sites and the closest competitor was an overclocked Phenom II X6 1100T which still came out lower than the i5-2500K running at stock speeds.

Even for multi-threaded applications?

Yea. The stock speed i5-2500K tops an overclocked Phenom II X6 1100T under multi-threaded tasks.

Under CineBench and WPrime they're about even.
