Their's also PCI-X soundcards

Anyways, I do music recording and limited music production. I wouldn't recomend one of these fancy surround sound cards for recording, but I would recomend a simple professional stero card.

This is the card I use, and it's one of the highest quality sounding cards money can buy.

Their's also the 192 version of this card which sounds virtually the same, but has balanced connectors. Also records in higher defination, however it's rare to record in such a high quality, due to the limitations of recording media.

Now, to use a traditional sound card you still need pre-amp's for most guitars. The signal coming out of the guitar is very low. For recording a guitar without preamp's, it may be wise to spend the money on something like this

These are just rough idea's, the Creative Emu line also has some very competitive cards that maybee better for some purposes than the m-audio line. And with other soundcard company's, you can't get much for under $200 for a professional card.
