Hey guys, been looking around for some info on getting a new PGU and this forum seemed like a great place to start.

I've been browsing around newegg.ca and have found a few options but would like some info on these cards.

I'm leaning towards the Radeon 4850:

Also considering the 4670:

So what do you guys recommend for about $100??

Also I'm a little in the dark as to what the specs of GPU's really mean... why is the 4850 with 512mb ram better than the 1GB 4670?? the bit rate really a big issue??

Thanks guys, look forward to seeing your responses.

With ATI cards, the big thing is the Stream Processors and Bandwidth

This is the order of importance of the compared specs between ATI Cards, from most to least important.

1)
4850 = 256 Bit (WIN)
4670 = 128 Bit

2)
4850 = 800 Stream Processors (WIN)
4670 = 320 Steam Processors

3)
4850 = 625Mhz Core Clock
4670 = 700Mhz Core Clock (WIN)
Though a good 4850 should easily be able to Overclock to 700Mhz

4)
4850 = 1986Mhz DDR3 (WIN)
4670 = 1700Mhz DDR3

Hmm, I just noticed it requires a 450watt power supply, mine is 400watt. Think I can run this ok??

depends, would be cutting it close, but what else is in your system? if it does end up working though, it is still recommended that you get a new psu down the road because consistently maxing out a psu isn't terribly good for it

then just get the 4670 because it dosnt require a PCI E cable, and it req 400W, and u have 400W, though id still upgrade your PSU

You can run a 4850 fine on a 400W PSU unless you have a lot of other stuff in your computer, however if its not a quality unit, I wouldn't recommend it.

It's a Dynex psu. Any good?

I just bought it, think I'm going to takeit back to future shop and get at least a 500.

Dynex is garbage. Years ago when I worked at BestBuy it was their own brand name. Employees got anything Dynex for ridiculous prices, Some items almost 90% off. I'd bet the employee can purchase that PSU for no more than a few dollars. I'd strongly recommend buying a brand name PSU personally. Of all parts in my own computer, I never go cheap on my power. I usually go with BFG for GPU's and PSU.
