Default New Dell Desktop

Ok, my brother comes to my house one day and just hands me a computer. He told me it's 3GHz, has a 120GB harddrive, and he's going to put 4GB of ram in it. All I need is the ram and I can boot it up. Also, I need a monitor. I can get a keyboard from my cousin and I have an optical mouse.

I asked my mom if I can take the car and buy a monitor with my cousin, but she told me I don't need my computer. She said once I go to college I can buy the monitor. Wait, what the hell? Why would I wait one year to buy a monitor. I have the computer mouse and keyboard, so why wait to get a monitor.

So what I'm getting at is, is there really a point to waiting until I go to college to buy a monitor? I want to get a 17" flat panel LCD, by the way.
eMac w/ Mac OS X 10.4.5, 1.25GHz, 768MB DDR Ram, 40GB harddrive, and an ATI Radeon 9200.

Dell desktop w/ 3.2GHz, possible 2GB DDR Ram, 120GB harddrive, and Intel Extreme.
