New CPU=much lag and high temperatures

So, I got an Intel Pentium 4 550 CPU, and attached it to my ASUS P5B SE (LGA775) motherboard. The cables were at all the right places, but for some reason my PC lagged as hell afterwards and temperatures rose from about 30-40 to about 90 degrees. I soon removed it, put the old one back again, and everything is fine now.
But what caused the problem in the new CPU I installed?

Pics attached contain info about OS, CPU, temperatures etc.

The ones named "old" are before the CPU replacement, and the ones named "new" are after it.

Maybe it is just speed fan gliching out can you actually feel the heat change ?

Can't really find a way to do that, but the major concern here is lag. If there is lag and everything is working fine, but only the CPU changes, then it must have hypothetically raised its temperature. The weird thing is, that this (both lag and overheating) happens even when I've changed the thermal paste on the CPU and put a big fan in front of it. So yea, SpeedFan may be glitching, but the lag bothers me more.
