new CPU

Pentium: I believe up to 500 MHZ
Pentium 2: up to 1 GHZ or a little bit over
Pentium 3: Up to 1.5 GHZ
Pentium 4: Up to 3.0 GHZ or over

It all depends on the socket and motherboard. Also above, I can't verify those speeds, but it's an estimate.

y did u talk about speeds? speeds dont mean any thing these days
we need your socket and fsb support before we can show you a cpu selection

ok im kinda new at this i bought a store computer (aka i didnt build it myself) so im not sure the exact motherboard i have an acer with a pentium dual core e2140 if that helps

that will be socket 775 and one of the C2D's from above are good neough and should work with your current setup

Woooo, you got the last of the Pentium CPU line!! Hmmm, I'm not sure what CPU your motherboard can support, but download a utility software such as CPU-Z:

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

....to see what your motherboard model is, but looks like it will work with Core 2 Duo CPUs right off the top of my head..
