I'm thinking about building a new computer. This will be my first build and I want to run my parts list by you guys and hopefully you can advise me/give me any tips that could help me save a lot of frustration.

I had someone help me pick out parts, but he and I had a bit of a...disagreement along the lines. Can you guys look that over and make suggestions please? Total for that would be over 2,000$ and I don't want to end up with crap after spending that much. By the way there would be two video cards and two harddrives and the guy said something about like RAID or something to make the harddrives act as one.

looks pretty good. A bit overkill with the powersupply though. You could save a lot of money by going with another psu.

The PSU isn't really overkill. It's pretty efficient. As long as you can fit it inside the case then by all means stick with your choice.

yeah but it's 1100W. It's not like you are going to use that much power. I doubt that his build would reach 700w even if all of the parts were under 100% load.

yh but if he gets a 700W PSU the it has to be 100% efficient which isnt likely so 850 - 900 is about right but that PSU is ok and if you wonna add a few hardrives maybe SLI in the future it allows u alot of expansion

No, it would draw 350W absolute maximum.

Efficiency isn't the amount of it's rated power the PSU can output. It's how much or how little it wastes converting the power from the socket and distributing it along the 5V, 3.3V and 12V rails.
500W with 30A+ on the 12V rail(s) is more than enough for that build

I don't know if I was really clear in the first post, but I want to have two 500 gig harddrives linked together to act like a 1tb harddrive and then two video cards. I'd rather end up with an overpowered rig than an underpowered rig. The guy I was building with said that the original PSU was TOTAL overkill.

SLI could run fine with a good quality 500W PSU, the E8400 is 45nm and it doesn't sound like you're overclocking so it would be perfectly safe.
