The single slot solution will disperse the hot air throughout your case. The dual slot will throw it out. So, if you're really worried about heat, or have a small case. The dual is the way to go.

One to pull in and one to pull out. With the PSU sucking in air and the GPU throwing out hot air in the case. I don't know how well it will do.

Yes, sucking the warm air from the case. The only "valuable" cool air is outside the case being sucked in by the front cooling fan(s).
