I just read up more about it, and the arctic freezer pro is able to be put in any direction. Hope that helps. As for the MicroATX motherboard, the space saved is usually done by squashing all the expansion slots rather than cramping everything near the CPU together. I think it'll be clear of the memory. Don't get me wrong though, it'd be better set up the way I have it as for the hot air to be dragged directly out of the case, that is unless you have a PSU pulling air out too above where your fitting it.
I'd give it a try, it's the only way your gonna be able to get lower temps is by a new HS/F and there all big now, and as you said, you can return it or keep it for a future build.
