He is willing to spend $1000 US. OH yea amd by the way..

and maybe 2 gig of ram, he only has one gig right now, but anyway he wants to play the latest games at high settings.

that would require him to buy new memory too, hes using DDR right now. and the processor is only 2 X 512kb Cache, the other one is 2 X 1MB cache

I agree, a mere $AU250 (Around $US195), can get you a Core 2 E6300, which pwns many AMD X2's right now.

My bad on the memory, guess he is gonna have to stick with Socket 939.

And you should look at some of the benchmarks with the 3600 vs 3800 (that has 1MB of cache, there is not enough difference to justify the price.
