networks: any simple way to see who is looking at what on my hard drives

hey i just wanted to know if there is a log or something that vista keeps on who is accessing what on my hard drives over the network we have in our student house. i have three hard drives setup for sharing and was just wondering what people are looking at

or is there any software out there?

Your Windows event log / event viewer security logs might show who's logging on to your shares.

Filemon and the other newer version of this are not ideal for this, as you will see everything the system is doing.

A long time ago, I came across the same solution, trying to monitor a network share and all the RW activity. This was 2 years ago, and there was no freeware that did this (and it's not built into windows). I'll try to find the name of the program I found that did the monitoring, however I believe it was $30.

well can't you use a packet sniffer?

I'm sure a sniffer should do the work as it use to work when I was listing files from my neighbours computer as we both had it set up
