Default Networking and Telecommunications

Please excuse me if this thread is in the wrong area, I was unsure where to place it.

I am a HS graduate who is very interested in a career in the technological field. I feel the best field for me is Networking and telecommunications, however I am unsure about what is the best way to presue it.

Is it better, in this field, to go to a 2 year college and then get certs and job hop, to get experience.

Or in THIS field, is a BS degree a more appropriate choice.
