Network Setups need help!

Me and my friend are trying to connect our computers to share files etc. Only one problem , he lives in northcarolina and im in west virginia. Is it possible to create a network with him?

We both have broadband cable. He has windows Home edition i have Xp professional. If anyone has any idea how to do this please post. i have tried to use network set up wizard but im not very sure how to make the computers connect. When i do remote desktop connection it says person may not have that enabled or is too busy to accept anything? Once again anyones help would be appreciated.

i tried that but does it require a server ? How would I connect to him i type in his ip and it tells me he has to "Enable it" or something. What exactly do i need to do to connect to him

u can install a "PC anywhere" software, and u can
connect him using that software through dial Up connection. u can download it maybe as trial version, but there are some sites that offer cracks for it... ( if u dont want to buy c",) )
