Default Network adapter not found?

I am using the comcast high speed internet self install kit but everytime I try to install it it says "Network adapter not found" and then it says "No network adapter was found on your computer. Either you do not have one installed or it has been installed incorrectly." My cable modem is hooked up and working but I want to install there software so I can use my homepage and get my e-mail addresses and other things that come with there software. What should I do because my cable modem is hooked up to my eithernet and it its working but I cant install the software...

Look in device manager and look for network adapters in the list. does it show any conflicts?
