Default Need a new computer!

Well, I need a new computer because my current one crashed to an unrecoverable point (I'm on a Laptop right now). This time I wanna be smart when shopping for a computer.

I need a computer that has at least 500gigs of space, I could accept 350 gigs, just not below 300, a good graphics card for gaming and a fast processor.

My budget is around $850. I rather not go over 900$.

Is monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers included in that price? Also, are you looking at pre-built or build your own?

I'm guessing you mean a desktop, right?

And if so, do you want to build it yourself, buy a custom-built one, or get a brand name? If you build it yourself, you can save a bundle of money and have great performance.

So which is it?

I already have the screen and stuff, just the tower will do. I don't want XP btw, I want Vista. How much can I save by building one? I never built one before.

Unless you find a killer deal at some store for a pre-built brand-name one, you can save a lot of money. I can't make a sample build for you right now since I'm leaving the house but I'm sure someone will do it asap. You can easily save hundreds by building your own.

CPU- Core 2 Duo E8400 45nm
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115046
$209

Graphics Card- Nvidia 8800GTS G92
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127325
$199

Hard Drive- Western Digital Caviar 500GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136073
$94.99

Motherboard- GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128059
$89.99

RAM- Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820104001
$79.99 (Great deal for 4GB!)

Power Supply- Rosewill RP550-2 550W Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182017
$56.99

Case- Cooler Master Centurion 5
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119047
$54.99 (I know some people that have this case)

DVD Drive- ASUS 20X DVD-R, etc
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135156
$34.99

Grand Total of $819.94, but that's without taxes and shipping.
That's just a suggestion for you to go off of. This would make a great gaming rig, with killer everyday performance, too. And you get your 500 gb hard drive you want. You can, of course, get cheaper or less RAM, get a less expensive CPU and graphics card, etc. It all depends on what kinda games you wanna play.

Hope that helps.

Chris

this looks like a decent prebuilt, $700 with a $100 rebate, just add a video card when your rebate comes back, building your own isn't hard if you've done it before, but isn't necessarily all that easy if you have no experience...

thats a pretty good computer, not sure if its as good as one you build yourself for the price, i havent really checked prices on compute lately.
That computer is better than mine, so i say go for it if you dont want to build your own.

It's a great PSU and would power the E8400 and 8800GTS fine.

If you're unsure about building your own and the thought of it is a bit worrying. Here is a guide: http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/

And if you ever have any problems, just post it up on CF and we'll be glad to help.

There are a "few" things wrong there. You can't put an AMD processor in an intel motherboard. I don't really recommend that PSU as I know people have had trouble with the Roswills before. Look at the one I recommended: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139003 Wattage isn't the most important factor in a PSU. You could say it's the most important part of a system so you don't want to skimp. The 8800GTS 320MB is an obsolete card. There are quieter, more energy efficient and better performing cards available from AMD and Nvidia now. Here are a few:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127315
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814134040
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143118
As for the platform, it's your choice. Both AMD and Intel have good processors available. Did you say what you were going to be doing with the computer?

No, it's not good. You get cheap generic RAM, a serverly under powered 8500GT, and it will come with a crappy PSU.
Why not go with the build GhostGT recommended? You'd be getting much higher quality parts.
