Default Need help choosing between laptops

I will need it for school...general Office programs, autocad, a little photoshop and dreamweaver. My budget is $1000 CAD.

I have narrowed it down to 2 computers around that range. Im leaning towards the first one (ASUS) as hardware wise, it is pretty decent for the price range and size of the laptop (14"). However the only thing that bothers me is the 1366 x 768 resolution (you could almost see vertical lines running along the screen)

The second option is the DELL. Had a more vibrant pixel dense LED touchscreen. HOWEVER, it has intel HD 520 integrated graphics vs the ASUS's Nvidia 920m. Given the higher resolution and lower end GPU, wondering if this will suffer with programs like autocad.

Anyway, the links are below:

I'm not up on my graphics cards so I won't comment there, but I do agree with you that doing any cad or photoshop work with 1366x768 resolution would be very hard. I had a netbook with that resolution before and I found that to be the biggest inconvenience.

I would really hate going back to 768p. And the 920m isn't that great anyway.
The 520 should perform somewhat similar (ofcause the Nvidia 920m is better, but it's limited how much of a difference you can expect from 2 low end GPU's. You can look at some benchmarks here: NVIDIA GeForce 920M - NotebookCheck.net Tech)

So my choice of those 2 are gonna be the Dell.
Also the bigger screen is a plus too.

Thanks guys I will go with the Dell. Of stupid Asus used a decent resolution screen it would have been such an easier decision... My macbook from 7 years ago has a better led panel

My experience lately with Asus is that it's expensive for what you are actually getting. The only advantage I see in their products is that they almost always have a backlit keyboard in their laptops.

I didn't find the model I listed to be overpriced compared to what the competition was offering (at least here in Toronto). America may be different.

ASUS has this ROG gaming computer for $1300 CAD that pretty much blows away the competition...i7 6700HQ, 980M, 16GB Ram...if it was in my budget, id definitely get it

Just an update...ended up going with the acer rt-471:

250gb ssd
i5 6200
intel 520
14" 1920 x 1080 touchscreen
2 in 1 360 flip screen
$899 CAD

Couldn't be happier. Screen I amazing and will update on how the apps in my OP rate on this.

To Dngrsone, you were right. After viewing more laptops, I realized that the ASUS was overprices. I would not have been happy at all with either the DELL or the ASUS. Everything from the build quality to the screen to the touchpad and keyboard is far better on this Acer for less money

Just a warning- I work in a computer repair shop and I've seen far too many Acer's with hardware failures. Be careful with it. They're at the bottom of the pile for hardware reliability.

Where I worked it was always Toshiba, yet lots of people seem to love them.
